This week
Good afternoon,
It has been wonderful reconnecting with children, staff and parents this week, it’s good to be getting back to normal. I look forward to building on my time in school next week too.
This week has been our Celebrating Diversity Week and all children in school have been taking part in activities that are linked to the beautiful book 'Our Story Starts In Africa'. We would like to welcome you to our Merits in the morning where our SAS will be providing some feedback to you about our Celebrating Diversity Week and our Makaton Choir will also be performing! Can we ask that outside achievements (that we always love to normally celebrate and see!) are left until our next one due to timings of the morning. Mrs. Gibson will be leading Merits.
I am pleased to inform you that we have appointed Miss Parker as class teacher whilst Miss Rowbottom takes her maternity leave. Miss Parker will be visiting us before the Easter Break to aid transition, her current school have agreed to release her for some days. We look forward to welcoming her into the team.
Our Wednesday PE is now outdoor for all classes, so joggers and hoodies are required (shorts can also be worn). As Foundation and Class 2 are now swimming, they will only have PE on a Wednesday and not their other day, swimming takes the place of PE.

On Thursday 6th March we will be celebrating World Book Day. We would like to invite children to come dressed in their pyjamas, with a teddy and their favourite book ( and staff too and maybe parents at drop off?!?). The children will then enjoy the day taking parts in different activities.
Friday
No Merits. The children are being treated to sessions of ‘GLOW IN THE DARK DODGBALL’. Our friends from Premier Education are coming in to school for the day. PE kits can be worn all day by all children. The morning will be dodgeball for Foundation and Class 2 and the afternoon will be Class 1 & 3.
Swimming for F2 and Class 2 will start. We swim for 8 weeks at Retford Leisure Centre. Please see the attached information regarding the pool rules and what to wear (no bikinis or baggy shorts, no jewellery etc). We are one of the few schools that allow parents to spectate, please be advised of the Spectator Etiquette:
Could I ask you and other family members who spectate to adhere to these guidelines:
- Only enter the spectator area when Sturton are getting into the pool and NOT whilst the previous school are in
- Not to stand up at the railings to try and talk/wave to the children
- Mobile phones should not be out or in use when spectators are using the viewing area, this is a safeguarding point
- Not talk/wave or try and communicate with the children whilst swimming
- Leave the viewing area promptly as we leave the poolside
Children can be picked up from the pool, this will be around 3.15pm as the children are in the pool from 2.15 – 3.00pm. It is VERY IMPORTANT that we are informed of this by email before each Friday by email to office@sturton.notts.sch.uk .
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, see you next week.
Regards
Mark
