Friday Our Mothering Sunday Service will take place in school at 9.15am. Reverend Mark Cantrill will be joining us. The classes will all be taking part. The Pupil Voice Committee will also be launching Waste Week (wc 12th March) to pupils, parents and staff. Afterwards, pastries and drinks will be provided for everyone (no charge), please stay and have a chat. Swimming starts for children in Y2, 3 & 4. Film Night will begin as soon as the children return from swimming. Tickets cost £2 and include a drink and hotdog. Sweets are available to purchase. Please collect children from the hall doors at 5.30pm. Saturday Sturton Splashers please be at Retford Pool at 2.00pm to get ready for the Swimathon. Please bring sponsor forms with you to be signed. Heads Up: Waste Week is our start in reducing the amount of waste we generate at school, particularly plastics. The Pupil Voice Committee have been inspired to lead on this initiative. One of the things they will talk about is reducing the amount of plastic packaging in lunch boxes. They will be making suggestions on how this can happen. We are also aiming to become ‘straw free’ in the near future. You will be aware that there is a huge movement nationally to try and reduce the amount of single use plastics that end up in land fill or the ocean. Please begin to have some thoughts on how you might be able to do your small bit in making this big change. Understanding the Problem The Typical Lunch: If you walk around at lunchtime and take a good look at the lunches our children bring to school, here's what some lunches will look like: • sandwiches in disposable plastic bags • fruits and vegetables in plastic bags • prepackaged crisps, cookies, fruit bars, granola bars, cheeses, and fruit winders • single-use yogurts, applesauces, and puddings • crackers, pretzels, chips, and other snack foods sealed in plastic bags • disposable juice boxes, juice pouches, water bottles, and milk cartons • plastic forks and spoons • paper napkins • reusable lunchboxes and disposable paper and plastic bags A Waste-free Lunch: • sandwiches and other main dishes, fresh fruits and, fresh vegetables, and treats in a reusable lunch container or containers • cloth napkins • stainless-steel forks and spoons • reusable drink containers • reusable lunchboxes
